Synthi VCS3(mk2) Dual External CV and Gate Interface

Similar functions to the dual synthi AKS cv unit but in Afrormosia hardwood case.
This unit is designed for the VCS3 mk2 and
allows a second Synthi (another VCS3 or even a synthi A(KS) ) to be
simultaneously connected. Connection is via a special cable with 25 pin
socket at one end and 3 cables each with 8 pin jones connectors
attached at the other.
One pair of cables (with ‘Synthi 1’ and ‘DK 1’ engraved on the plugs/sockets) are for connection to the main synthi VCS3 unit. Power is taken from this main Synthi 1 to power the DK keyboard as usual. The third cable (with engraved ‘Synthi 2’ on the 8 pin Jones plug) is for connecting to the second Synthi.
No power is taken from this second synthi..only the ground
connection so that Synthi 1 , DK 1 and Synthi 2 all have a common
ground. The unit has all the functionality of my single Synthi AKS CV
interface described elsewhere. That is either DK control or 3 channels
of scalable external CV1-CV3 + external Gate can be independently
switched on each of the input channels Input Ch1, Input Ch2, matrix row
16 of the matrix and the external Gate can trigger the Envelope Shaper.
In addition I can add, as an extra option, a 3.5mm jacksocket for a
second external gate to trigger Synthi 2 (thus allowing simultaneous
independent triggering of synthi 1 and synthi 2 envelope shapers)
Now with the Dual Synthi unit, each of the 4 channels (Input ch1, Input ch2, Row 16 (Joystick vertical control) and ES trigger can be toggle switched to either control Synthi, Synthi 2 or Synthi 1+2 simultaneously. The various voltages coming from the DK keyboard on the main Synthi VCS3 unit (‘Synthi 1’ ) are all op-amp buffered. This means no voltage droops happen when these voltages are used to drive Synthi 1 + Synthi 2 at the same time. Particularly important for pitch voltages coming form the DK. In addition there is a voltage inverter available for CV3 as in the single VCS3 CV& Gate unit.
The unit derives its power from Synthi 1 and is minimal (few
milliamps) to drive the quad JFET opamp used for the 3 buffers +
inverter.The second Synthi being controlled by this unit can be another
Synthi AKS or VCS3 mk2.A Synthi A or VCS3 mk1 can also be used but then
you wont have the CV3
option available to these as matrix row 16 does not double as a CV
input on these synthi’s.
